Penn Law is pleased to announce that Elise Luce Kraemer L’93 has been appointed the new Executive Director of Graduate Programs at the Law School.

Since the tragic death last fall of Matthew Parker L’00, Associate Dean of Graduate Programs, Kraemer has spearheaded the Graduate Programs team, successfully supporting the LLM Class of 2017 and bringing in the LLM class of 2018 (comprised of 118 foreign trained attorneys from 35 countries who were selected from over 1,400 applicants from 75 countries), as well as four new SJD students.

Kraemer, a 1993 graduate of the Law School, returned to Penn Law in 2006, originally as a member of the Career Planning and Professionalism (CP&P) team, focusing on supporting LLMs and JD students interested in international opportunities. While in CP&P, Elise was involved in starting the Penn Law International Internship Program (PLIIP) and International Summer Human Rights Fellowship (ISHRF) programs — which provide opportunities for JDs interested in working abroad — and she also served as the National Chair for NALP’s LLM and International Section. In 2011, she transitioned to Graduate Programs, where she focused on recruiting, admissions and student services for LLMs.

“I was truly blessed to have Matthew Parker’s mentorship, and feel incredibly lucky to continue his legacy and to work with our incredibly talented, diverse and interesting graduate programs students,” she said.

Kraemer received her BA in Art and Design from the University of Chicago and her JD from Penn Law and served as a Deputy City Solicitor for the City of Philadelphia Law Department.

She teaches mindfulness at Penn Law and local law firms. A graduate of Jefferson’s Mindfulness Practicum in teaching MBSR, she has also completed her coursework for the Certificate in Mindfulness at Penn Medicine’s Center for Mindfulness, and her ongoing capstone project focuses on mindfulness for lawyers and law students.

She was also the creator and steward of a public art project “Occupy My Soul” featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer and creator, director, and producer of the play “Yoga Stories” which was awarded a “Best of Fest” at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival.
